Marine Flexible Impeller Applications

Jabsco flexible impellers can be used with compatible bronze flexible impeller pumps, including pumps for marine engine cooling, bilge, transfer, and general-purpose applications.

Because marine impellers are designed for specific pump configurations, always verify the impeller diameter, shaft dimensions, drive type, blade count, and insert configuration against your original impeller or the pump manufacturer's specifications before ordering.

Preventative Impeller Maintenance

Jabsco recommends replacing impellers at least once every year, or sooner depending on engine duty and operating conditions. While a properly installed impeller may remain usable for several years in some applications, following a regular preventative maintenance schedule is recommended.

Always carry a spare impeller on board. Keeping a replacement available can be particularly important for boats that depend on flexible impeller pumps for engine cooling and other essential marine pumping applications.

Replacing the Flexible Impeller

To replace the impeller, remove the pump end-cover screws and carefully remove the existing impeller. A Jabsco Impeller Removal Tool can be used to grip the impeller hub, or channel-lock pliers may be used when appropriate.

Do not use screwdrivers to remove the impeller. Prying against the pump body can damage the pump face or sealing surface and may cause leaks.

Before installing the new impeller, grease the impeller with a lubricant recommended for the pump and impeller material. Greasing helps ease installation into the pump bore and provides lubrication during initial pump priming.

After installing the impeller, replace the gasket and reinstall the end cover according to the pump manufacturer's instructions.
