Marine Flexible Impeller Applications
Jabsco flexible impellers are designed for compatible bronze flexible impeller pumps, including applications for marine engine cooling, bilge pumping, transfer, and general-purpose pumping.
Correct fit is essential when replacing a marine impeller. Before ordering, compare the replacement with the original impeller or verify the pump manufacturer's specifications for diameter, shaft dimensions, drive type, blade count, and insert configuration.
Preventative Impeller Maintenance
Jabsco recommends replacing impellers at least once every year, or sooner depending on engine duty and operating conditions. While a properly installed impeller may last longer in some applications, a regular preventative maintenance schedule is recommended.
Always carry a spare impeller on board. Keeping a replacement available is an important part of marine maintenance, especially for boats that rely on flexible impeller pumps for engine cooling and other pumping applications.
Replacing a Jabsco Flexible Impeller
To replace the impeller, remove the pump end-cover screws and carefully extract the existing impeller. A Jabsco Impeller Removal Tool can be used to grip the impeller hub, or channel-lock pliers may be used when appropriate.
Do not use screwdrivers to pry out the impeller. Doing so may damage the pump body or sealing surface and can result in leaks.
Before installing the new impeller, grease the impeller with a lubricant recommended for the pump and impeller material. Greasing makes installation into the pump bore easier and provides lubrication during initial pump priming.
After installation, replace the gasket and reinstall the pump end cover according to the pump manufacturer's instructions.
