Mercury Alpha 1 Gen 2 Anode Kit
Tecnoseal Anode Kit w/Hardware - Mercury Alpha 1 Gen 2 - Magnesium (Part Number: 20801MG) is a complete sacrificial anode kit designed to protect 1991 and newer MerCruiser outdrives from galvanic corrosion.
Because this kit is made of magnesium, it is engineered strictly for freshwater use. Magnesium is highly active on the galvanic scale, making it the only material that provides adequate cathodic protection in the low-conductivity environment of fresh water. (Note: Do not use magnesium anodes in saltwater, as they will over-protect, dissolve rapidly, and can cause damage to your outdrive's paint.)

Installation Tips
- Metal-to-Metal Contact: Ensure the mounting surfaces on your outdrive are completely clean, sand-scraped, and free of paint or debris before bolting on the new anodes. The anode requires physical electrical contact to protect the drive.
- Never Paint Anodes: Painting over a sacrificial anode will completely insulate it and prevent it from working.
- Replacement Schedule: Inspect your anodes at least once a year (or mid-season if you store your boat in the water). Replace them when they have worn down to about 50% of their original size.
