Description

Scotty Throw Bag w/50' MFP Floating Line is a compact, ready-to-deploy water safety device designed for kayakers, paddlers, and small vessel boaters.

Key Features and Specifications

  • Floating Line: Pre-loaded with 50 feet of 9/32-inch braided MFP (multifilament polypropylene) floating rope.
  • Strength Rating: Features a 550 lb. to 660 lb. break test strength depending on the certification batch.
  • High-Visibility Bag: Constructed from bright orange, self-draining nylon and polyester mesh.
  • Low-Light Safety: Wrapped in a 3M retroreflective exterior safety band for nighttime flashlight visibility.
  • Convenient Rigging: Includes an adjustable mounting strap to anchor it securely to your kayak deck, canoe thwarts, or safety vest.
  • Buoyancy Backup: Outfitted with an internal closed-cell foam flotation disk at the base to ensure the bag never sinks during a throw.

Safety and Compliance Note

This product meets Canadian Coast Guard safety requirements for vessels under 20 meters in length. However, due to its lightweight 9/32-inch rope diameter, it is intended for flatwater, coastal sea kayaking, and general boating; it is not rated for heavy-duty whitewater rescue where intense hand-held shock loads occur.

How to use a throw bag

  1. Open the throw bag by loosening the drawstring
  2. Take a few meters of rope out of the bag to keep some slack for throwing
  3. Firmly hold the rope with your non-dominant hand and throw the bag with your dominant hand to the rescue
  4. Aim to get the line within arm’s reach of the rescue
  5. Wait for them to grab the rope and pull them to safety
